Illica of the Iceni - Macmillan Competition
Another of my final year university projects was to create an entry for the annual Macmillan children's book competition. I designed a book called Illica of the Iceni, based on the tribe that was led by queen Boudicca as I am from Colchester, Essex which she famously burnt. The story book follows a little girl called Illica, who is feeling bored and so runs small errands for the people in her community. I painted the illustrations for this book in gouache, which I think gives the book a quite homely and hand-made feel. I really enjoyed this project as it included some historical research and I could really use my full creativity to come up with a story and illustration style.
